Looking to start your career driving trucks?

There is a lot of appeal to a truck driving career, especially the opportunity to travelthe open road. Truck drivers can see the country in a whole new way when driving, and even more, they can be their own boss while doing so.

Whether you work for a trucking company or have your own tractor trailer, you may find yourself traveling through mountain passes or the mystical Badlands, along the ocean or past rivers and thick pine forests. And landing a great job simply requires acommercial driver’s license (CDL), which can be obtained through the many truck driver training schools across the U.S.

Truck Driving Schools Offer Specialized Training

With the proper training, truck drivers can make a pretty great living, depending on the number of miles driven on any given week. On average, a driver can make as much as $1,200 a week, or $62,000 a year. That’s not bad, considering the opportunity to see much of the country at the same time.

The right school can get you behind the wheel fast, and better still, there are some companies that will pay for that education in order to have you as part of their team.

An educational program costs between $3,000 and $7,000, with classes running about seven weeks for those attending school full-time. Course work includes 50 hours of classroom instruction, 15 hours of lab and parked vehicle instruction, 24 hours of basic vehicle handling work, and 71 hours of public roadway driving with a qualified instructor.

After completing your course work, you are eligible for your CDL, and can get behind the wheel of a big rig bound for your choice of destinations!
