CDL Training

New classes start every Monday for our Class A CDL course. Students attend Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm for 4 weeks to complete the 160 hours that most carriers will require.

At Premier we walk our students all the way through the training process, starting with the written testing. The first week of training is focused on classroom time to prepare you for your permit. Our classroom instructor will use DVDs, practice tests, and oral instruction to ensure your success. You will be trained for the 3 required endorsements (general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicle) as well as the 4 additional endorsements ( hazmat, tanker, doubles and triples, and bus passenger). We have found that there is certainly an added benefit to having all 7, especially when it comes to job placement. During your first week you will also be taught trip planning, map reading, driver logs, federal motor carrier regulations, and operation lifesaver (interaction with railroads).

When you obtain your permit you will begin road and skills training. Our 6 acre range is equipped with three alley docks and three straight backs to keep our students moving. Before you drive on the road an instructor will bring you to the shifting range to practice shifting the trucks.

Over the next 3 weeks you will master behind the wheel training including, but not limited to:

- pre-trip safety inspection

- skills range backing course

- shifting techniques – up shifting/downshifting

- proper 18 wheeler operation in urban, rural, industrial, and interstate driving conditions

On final test day a State Examiner will test you on site in the truck and trailer you have chosen. While the vast majority of students will pass on the first trip there are some exceptions. At Premier we believe everyone deserves a second chance, so we will gladly help you reschedule your test and see your success through.
