Truck Driving Program

With the ever increasing demand for professional truck drivers, job placement from the Lake Superior College trucking program is excellent. Get you commercial driver’s license (CDL) while you learn how to drive a tractor-trailer. We’ll teach you about safety, how to maintain log books, and weight distribution. When you finish this program, you’ll have gotten your Class A commercial driver’s license. You’ll leave with the skills and knowledge to be a professional truck driver!

A new addition to the Truck Driving Program is a state-of the-art Virage Simulator. The simulator has shown significant improvement in students’ ability to operate non-synchro manual transmissions. The results are better driving test scores, greater confidence and improved driving test pass rates.

Class A: This license is considered the “universal” CDL, providing the opportunities for driving several different types of commercial trucks and tractor trailers weighing over 10,000 pounds.The first class of our Class A CDL program is our online Theory course. This course prepares you to take your permit exam. Your permit is required prior to any on-road training here at LSC. The next class is the Range/Skills course. In this course you will learn how to maneuver a large combination vehicle in confined spaces, including backing skills on our driving range. Once you are proficient in the Range/Skills course, you will finish with the Road course.

Three career training centers

LSC Center for Advanced Aviation is home to our professional pilot and aviation maintenance technician programs. LSC Emergency Response Training Center is a regional fire-fighting and emergency rescue training hub and also hosts LSC’s truck driving program in west Duluth. LSC Downtown Center offers state-of-the-art integrated manufacturing training and shop facilities for machining, welding, and computer-aided design.
