Big Rig Truck Driving School was established in 1995 as a direct result of the truck driver shortage that has now reached crisis proportions. It is part of a family of trucking and training related companies which include operations in:

The classroom and maneuver yard of Big Rig are located at 2165 Beaumont NW in Massillon, Ohio 44647. The sales and information office is located at 1211 – 3rd Sreet NW in Massillon, Ohio 44647. The school provides instruction in the classroom, on the maneuver yard, and over the road to qualify men and women for great paying jobs and a lifetime career in the trucking industry.

The courses of instruction are in compliance with the laws and regulations of the State of Ohio, Department of Public Safety, State Highway Patrol, Division of Licensing and Commercial Standards.

Big Rig is an educational provider for many state and federally funded agencies, such as W.I.A., O.B.E.S., Jobs & Family Services, and B.V.R.

It is the policy of Big Rig Truck Driving School to offer the highest level of quality and performance in all areas of operation.

Our courses of instruction are designed to:

- Instill positive attitudes & build self-confidence and self- esteem in the student.

- Provide the practical and theoretical training necessary to do the job of truck driving.

- Continually evaluate each student’s progress and needs.

- Provide counseling on how to find and choose your job.

- Provide personalized training suited to each student’s needs.

Big Rig was established in 1995 as a direct result of the truck driver shortage that has now reached crisis proportions. It is part of a family of trucking and training related companies.

Each student receives 40 hours of classroom time and at least 40 hours of actual behind-the-wheel instruction on the Big Rig practice yard and on the road. Total instructional time may vary between 80 hours and 160 hours depending on the number of students in the class.

The day course is taught from Monday through Friday and consists of eight hour days. Start and end times may vary with the seasons and the weather conditions. The course lasts three to four weeks, depending on the number of students in the class.

Class/Lab/Independent Study

Backing and shifting Techniques; Coupling and uncoupling; Trouble Shooting and Emergency Repairs; Placement Counseling; Hours of Service Requirements; Trip Planning & Map Reading; Commercial Drivers License; Defensive Driving; Vehicle Systems; Preventive Maintenance and Servicing; Sliding Tandems and fifth Wheels.

Range Training

Vehicle Control Systems; Vehicle Inspections; Turns; Straight Line Backing; Coupling and Uncoupling; Backing Maneuvers; Offset Lane Changes; Parallel Parking; Alley Dock Maneuver.

City and Highway Driving

Late Model Equipment, Vans; Transmission Shifting Patterns; Left and Right Turns, Handling Curves, Bridges and Overpasses, Entering & Exiting Expressways, Lane Changes, Stops and Starts on Upgrades and Downgrades, Railroad Crossings, Intersections, Traffic Control Devices.
