Centura College’s CDL course provides students the opportunity to learn and apply appropriate knowledge to successfully secure a Class “A” operating license and relevant endorsement through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. The student will know and understand the efforts made by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration to help professional drivers remain safe and be aware of penalties for major violations of CDL guidelines. Students will study vehicle systems, control systems and practice behind the wheel in preparation of the DMV written and practical examination for a class “A” license.
Objectives Include
Demonstrate knowledge of how to couple and uncouple rigs.
Drive and operate a Tractor Trailer.
Understand driving and safety regulations for operating a rig.
Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills to pass the DMV Class A license skills test.
Centura College first began offering career placement services in 1969. In 1983, the company opened its first school, Electronic Institute of Technology, in Norfolk, Virginia. Over the years, training options and campus locations expanded, resulting in the campuses uniting under the new name of Tidewater Tech. In 1991, Tidewater Tech opened its fourth location in Hampton Roads just off Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake. After years of growth, the Peninsula campus relocated to its larger current location on Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, in 1991, and in 2008, the school’s name was changed again, this time to Centura College.
