The Class A CDL training lasts six weeks and is offered Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., preparing students to receive their CDL license along with a 180 hour certificate, exceeding the industry standard of 150 hours.

Certification options include:

Commercial Learners Permit (CLP)

Class A license

Tanker endorsement

Doubles and Triples endorsement

Hazmat endorsement

School bus and passenger endorsement

The program features hands-on experience driving a truck with guaranteed small class sizes. Testing is provided on site.

The Class B CDL program provides the necessary training and seat time to obtain that license. Included in the course is school bus and passenger endorsement training.

Students interested in either of the CDL programs are required to complete a DOT physical and successfully pass a drug screening.

Start dates vary throughout the year.

New River Community and Technical College serves nine counties in southeast and south central West Virginia: Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers and Webster. The College has four campuses: Greenbrier Valley Campus, Mercer County Campus, Nicholas County Campus and Raleigh County Campus and offers classes at educational sites within the service region and online.

Welcome to the Nicholas County Campus of New River CTC, located in Summersville in the heart of West Virginia’s outdoor adventure country. The campus is the base for New River CTC’s Practical Nursing Program. We offer medical assisting and currently the only campus offering the Health Information Technology program. Our Office of Workforce Education offers an array of continuing and community education classes and provides customized training for business and industry.
