Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers transport goods from one location to another. Most tractor-trailer drivers are long-haul drivers and operate trucks with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds per gross vehicle weight. They deliver goods over intercity routes, sometimes spanning several states. Working as a long-haul truck driver is a major lifestyle choice because these drivers can be away from home for days or weeks at a time. They spend much of this time alone.

Trainees come to the course after obtaining their commercial driver’s learners permit (CLP) and DOT physical. WCA’s Regional Training Center has a 1.1 mile off-road track and skills pad on site. Students learn the required aspects of truck driving with an emphasis on off road driving and construction site driving to prepare students for working in the construction and energy industries. Job placement assistance is available for successful graduates.
