A CDL can help you reach your career goals with a variety of in-demand job opportunities to choose from.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Employment of heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. As the demand for goods increases, more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving."

This comprehensive training program will teach you the skills you need to pass the NCDOT’s CDL skills and knowledge tests and give you hands-on driving practice. Scholarships are available to help cover program costs!

Commercial Drivers Licesne Exam Prep

A requirement to enter the Truck Driver Training program is to have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "A" learners permit.

This 24-hour exam prep course is designed to help individuals pass the written test at the NC Department of Motor Vehicles that is required to obtain a CDL Class "A" learners permit.

New! Truck Driving: An Introduction to the Job and Lifestyle

This 3-hour career awareness course will provide information on what you should know before pursuing a career in truck driving. This course is offered by the Human Resources Development (HRD) program in partnership with GTCC’s comprehensive Truck Driving Training program.

The Truck Driver Training (TDT) curriculum provides students with training to inspect and operate tractor-trailers; assume responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. This is a 320 hour course, Instruction will be 22% classroom and 78% on the driving range and/or on the road. Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspection, defensive driving, range maneuvers, motor carrier’s safety regulations, trip planning, cargo handling, size/weight laws, general maintenance procedures; hours of service and vehicle accident prevention.
