CNM’s Commercial Drivers’ License Offerings

CNM offers CDL programs through CNM's School of Applied Technologies (AT) and through CNM Ingenuity. Both programs vary in price, frequency, credit, accreditation and prerequisites.

Right now, the AT Truck Driving Program offers two (2) convenient hybrid options which can count for college credit. Hybrid means that the theory portions of the classes are online and then there is an in-person lab (or practice driving range time). The first option is weekdays. The lab component is on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. This option takes 12 weeks to complete. The next option is a combination of evenings and weekends. This option takes 15 weeks to complete. Labs take place all day on Saturdays & Sundays.

All AT classes occur on a set schedule, are offered once a semester, may require prerequisites (if obtaining a Transportation Technology degree), and cannot be individualized in any way. This program is available through CNM.

CNM Ingenuity also offers a fast track program. This accelerated program is offered monthly and is able to be customized.

The CNM truck driving program offers basic instruction required to become a professional truck driver and to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Obtaining a Class A license permits you to drive a Class B vehicle as well.

Truck driving classes are offered every term including summers

Students may not test out of or skip any classes.

All classes are run in a sequential manner and may not be taken concurrently.

Students initially will only be able to register for the first class in the CDL A series (TRDR 1120).

Classes are held at the Advanced Technology Center.

Practice driving may be held off campus.

Some extra endorsements may be available (Tankers, Doubles, Hazardous Materials, Passenger) and each will have additional costs associated with it.

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) is the largest community college in New Mexico, providing a premier and affordable education.
