Commercial Driver’s License

With a national driver shortage of more than 230,000, trucking transport companies are hiring! GCC offers Entry Level Driver Training to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License through CDS Tractor Trailer Training school. The training is tailored to meet the requirements of Entry Level Driving Training rule required by the DMV prior to the DMV driver skills exam.

Students participate in classroom, range and On-The-Road training. Classroom training topics include basic control, safe operating procedures, distracted driving, hazard perception, vehicle systems and much more. Range training consists of Pre-Trip Inspection, Straight Line Backing, Off-Set Backing, and Parallel Parking, all of which are required to pass the DMV skills test. On-The-Road training covers shifting, speed and space management, and many other control topics. Upon successful completion of the required curriculum and a demonstration of the skill set needed to pass the DMV exam, CDS will arrange and provide the vehicle for the skills exam. Once students pass the skills exam, CDS will issue a student transcript and a Certificate of Completion.

Both full-time and part-time programs are available. The full-time option is a 4-week program held Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The part-time program consists of ten consecutive weekends held Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. During training sessions, recruiters will be onsite for job placement assistance and most students have job offers before they graduate.

The classroom setting leads to behind-the-wheel training in the yard where students apply their knowledge from the classroom to the vehicle in practicing backing skills required for the CDL skills test. CDS also has a truck driving simulator that provides the student safe and step-by-step training on shifting before beginning the road training. Students enter road training in a safe setting and progress to city driving as their skills progress. The educational learning comes in a step-by-step process to help all students see the details and essential skills that needed to become a commercial driver.

CDS Tractor Trailer Training’s goal with every student is to provide professional training in a format that makes it possible to earn a Commercial Driver’s License and enter the workforce as a truck or bus driver.
